Aaron C. Thomas

Aaron C. Thomas, Ph.D.

Aaron C. Thomas received his PhD from Florida State University in 2012. His work draws on a wide range of theoretical discourses in order to open up questions about how violent masculinity operates in contemporary culture. His book project, The Violate Man, analyzes representations of male/male sexual violence, and uses violence theory, queer theory, critical race theory, and trauma theory to examine representations of male/male rape in various media, including theatre, film, literature, and television. He also writes about Black theatre history in the United States.

His most recent essay, "Watching A Raisin in the Sun and Seeing Red", recently appeared in Modern Drama. Other articles and reviews can be found in American Theatre magazine and the Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide, as well as the journals Theatre Survey, Theatre Topics, Studies in Musical Theatre, Cultural Studies, Theatre Journal, New Theatre Quarterly, and the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism.

Formerly, he was the resident dramaturg for Endstation Theatre Company, based in Central Virginia. He has also worked with the Brooklyn-based collective The American Laboratory, as well as playwrights in Atlanta, Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
