Be Part of SLAM!

Be a SLAM Little:

As a mentee (Little), you will be matched with a UCF student mentor (Big). All Bigs and Littles meet as a group every week to learn about Leadership and STEM.

Meetings will take place every Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at UCF Main Campus.

Eligibility to be a Little includes:

  1. Entering 7th grade
  2. Parental consent
  3. Make a one-year (Fall & Spring) commitment to be a Little
  4. Be able to meet every Wednesday from 6:00pm–7:30pm in person at UCF
  5. Attend the Parent Orientation

Be a SLAM Big: 

As a mentor (Big), you will be matched with a 7th grade mentee (Little). All Bigs and Littles meet as a group via Zoom every week to learn about Leadership and STEM. Participation as a Big may also be counted toward UCF Service Learning!

Meetings will take place every Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at UCF

Eligibility to be a Big includes:

  1. Good academic standing
  2. Clean background check
  3. Make a one-year (Fall & Spring) commitment to be a Big
  4. Be able to meet every Wednesday from 6:00pm–7:30pm in person at UCF
  5. Attend all Big Meetings held once a month, Wednesday 7:30pm-9:00pm in person at UCF
  6. Complete Youth Protection Program training with the Compliance Ethics and Risk Office
  7. Attend BOTH Big Trainings held on a Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:30 pm in person at UCF
  8. Preference will be given to STEM majors and/or Women’s and Gender Studies minors
  9. UCF undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply

Be a SLAM Facilitator:

Once you have been a Big for at least one year and are in good standing with SLAM,  you may apply to be a SLAM Facilitator!

Facilitators lead all Big and Little Meetings.  All Facilitators meet once a week with the SLAM Program Manager to prepare for Little/Big Meetings. Becoming a Facilitator gives you a great opportunity to enhance and grow your leadership skills while making a difference not only in middle schoolers’ lives but also your college peers’ lives! If you are interested in applying to be a Facilitator, contact the SLAM Program Manager, slam@ucf.edu
